An immersive meditation experience using EEG technology to visualize mental states.

The Neurotiq Spa was designed by Kristin Neidlinger to provide participants with a transformative meditation experience. Taking off from the original Neurotiq (2014) design, Kristin brought a team together to create an immersive sensory(-ee) experience. By utilizing EEG technology, we were able to create LED displays via 3D-printed optical fiber headpieces, visually representing the mental states of participants during guided meditation sessions. This innovative approach allowed individuals to see their mental state in real-time, enhancing their awareness and engagement in the meditation process.
Participants were guided through a series of meditative practices aimed at promoting relaxation and mindfulness. The EEG data collected during these sessions provided insights into the participants' mental states, typically showing an increase in theta and alpha brainwave activity, which are associated with deep relaxation and meditative states.
The integration of technology into the meditation experience was a key aspect of the Neurotiq Spa. After each session, participants received a detailed Mind Carte report on how their meditation impacted their mental state, including changes in brainwave activity. This feedback loop not only enhanced the meditation experience but also encouraged participants to explore their mental health and well-being further.
Our team worked diligently to ensure that the LED displays were responsive and accurately reflected the participants' mental states, creating a visually stunning and immersive environment that complemented the meditative practices.

Working on the Neurotiq Spa project was an exciting opportunity to merge technology with wellness. Collaborating with a talented team of engineers and meditation experts, we aimed to create a unique experience that would resonate with participants on multiple levels.
We faced challenges in ensuring the accuracy of the EEG readings and the responsiveness of the LED displays, but through rigorous testing and iteration, we were able to deliver a product that exceeded expectations.
• Developed the hardware/software interface to track multiple Muse EEG headsets via bluetooth, driving the LEDs via a separate bluetooth interface, and creating the Mind Carte report from the EEG data.
• Conducted user testing to refine the interaction between EEG sensors, LED data presentation, and meditative state
• Collaborated with meditation experts to design effective guided sessions
